Luca Tevini

Luca Tevini was born in Milan, attended the IPSAR Carlo Porta hotel school and obtained, in June 2006, the Sommelier diploma.
After some experiences abroad and in Tuscany at prestigious hotel facilities, in May 2010 he began working as sommelier in Peck, wine shop in Milan.

Here’s how Luca talks about the wine market.

Luca, do you work in one of the most prestigious wine bars in Italy, do you notice the differences between Italian and foreign customers?
“From what I can observe every day, the Italian clientele while continuing to be interested in the great labels and the most famous types of Italian and foreign wines, in recent years has been increasingly looking for the right value for money and more open to new products that the market offers.
The foreign customer usually prefers the most known labels in the world and is less attentive to the price, also because in many countries some wines can cost 3/4 times more than in Italy.
In many cases, however, he is also curious to be guided by us sommeliers to discover vines and regions of Italy that are still little known abroad.

– Which regions are the wines most requested by your customers?
“If we talk about red wine, the two leading regions are Tuscany and Piedmont with their classics, but the demand from Veneto, Sicilian and Trentino Alto Adige reds is also good.
As for white wines, the most requested are the Trentino and Friulian ones. The demand for Sardinian, Sicilian and Piedmontese wines is also good
.”

– Luca do you have a criticism to make to the wine market?
“More than a criticism it is a small note on a topic often addressed by us sommeliers but also by some customers.
Unfortunately restaurateurs, enotecari, representatives and producers themselves, tend to sell too young wine that has not yet reached the right level of maturity.
If on the one hand the customer can easily buy excellent wines to be kept in the cellar, he has more difficulty finding wines already aged and ready to drink in wine bars, restaurants and wine bars, as the consumer would like
.”
